The audio diaries of two young Cleveland women struggling to complete their educations against the odds

The Old Stone Foundation Education Center helps young women who are pregnant or have children out of wedlock to get their GED, the alternative to a high school diploma. Dana and Desiree both achieved that goal but only Dana went on to college and an internship. Desiree is still struggling.

Desiree proudly displays the kindergarten graduation photo of her son Elijah.
Desiree went back to her coffee shop job and didn't return to Old Stone to work toward getting into college and an internship. We talked to her on the porch of her Mother's house where she and her son are staying while she tries to get on a better financial footing.
When students obtain their GEDs they are proudly displayed.
The playroom is well-equipped and colorful at the Old Stone Foundation Education Foundation.
Daycare at the Old Stone Foundation is available while parents study for their GEDs. Executive Director Marc Nathanson says the program is holistic, also including parenting and budgeting workshops.
Dana thinks Amaya is in a good educational environment, too, at  Stone.
