Tressel no more budget cuts are discussion. But, he noted, that his administration will always have the responsibility to run the university in a fiscally sound way.
In terms of private partnerships for entrepreneurship and new research, Tressel said he believes that is a proven way for YSU to leverage its resources to help the region and state grow.
He was asked if he feels the state should change its formula for supporting higher education so more money goes to institutions like Youngstown State that are often awarding “first-in-the-family” degrees. |
“Well you know I think that. I also know the difficulty of funding across the board. I don’t think we can spend an inordinate amount of time talking about the way it is and how it might not be favoring us. (But) I believe we have to work hard and do a better job in the current funding formula."
Tressel said he will be attending meetings with other state university presidents later in the year to talk about funding formulas and other issue
